On the 13th day of October, the Solace Asia family will once more be involved in what is an awareness campaign that began its first celebration in the year 1992, the World Mental Health Day.
With members in more than 150 countries, the World Federation for Mental Health observes the day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.
Jointly organized by the Sabah Mental Health Association and Persatuan C.H.I.L.D. Sabah, it is the Sabah Mental Health Festival 2018, an event the Solace family actively contributes to, with the objective of educating the public on the relationship between mental health and addiction.
“Dual Diagnosis” is the term used to describe people with mental illnesses who have coexisting problems with drugs and/or alcohol. A rather complex correlation lies between the two, which requires a complex therapeutic approach than the treatment of either condition alone.
In such cases, drugs and alcohol can be a form of self-medication, delivering a momentarily good feeling without treating the underlying condition. It is only with the expertise of a professional that one’s recovery can be attained.
